A day of murcianas indigenous breeds discloses the Montesina sheep (11/05/2016)

The Third Day murcianas indigenous breeds aims to raise awareness and increase production and consumption of sheep Montesina.

The meeting, organized by the Instituto Murciano Research and Agricultural Development and Food (imide) was held today in Calasparra with presentations and tasting of dishes made with lamb this race.

The Director General of Agrifood Innovation, Juana Mulero said that "such initiatives aim to disseminate quality lamb race Montesina, which is an indigenous and environmentally sustainable species, which allows many families to continue their operations and create jobs" .

In this day it has been implicated producers, livestock associations and individuals related to gastronomy and tourism to present innovative dishes made with lamb to promote culinary tourism in the interior and boost the economy of the area.

The meeting included presentations related to the characteristics of the breeds in danger of extinction, culinary characteristics of Montesina sheep and tasting dishes with lamb from this source produced by gourmets Monserrat Cantero, restaurant Cantero Calasparra, and Juan Carlos Ruiz Riquelme, Murcia Picky-picky restaurant and 'Chef Manta' in 7RM.

Montesina breed sheep breeds in Calasparra and has specific environmental connotations as ease for grazing in areas of difficult access and consumption of high quality pasture.
