The City Council shows its rejection of fracking (11/04/2018)

The City of Calasparra has once again shown its rejection of the technique of hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, and has been present at the concentration held on Sunday on the occasion of the cycling tour organized by the Basin Platform of the Segura Libre de Fracking, a the one that has been added around 50 people and that has passed, until this Monday, between the municipalities of Socovos (Albacete) and Murcia.

The activists have thus shown their opposition to hydraulic fracturing.

Currently, they explain from the Platform, "there is a serious danger that the Oil & Gas Capital company will begin to apply the technique of hydraulic fracturing.

As detailed, there are two projects, called 'Leo' and 'Scorpio', located in the municipalities of Hellín (Albacete), Jumilla, Cieza, Calasparra, Moratalla and Cehegín, which are affected directly;

although in reality, they recall that "all the municipalities that make up the Segura River Basin are being put at risk, since they can contaminate the aquifers, the surface waters and the river itself, which would be a real disaster for the economy of area".

The central act of the cyclotourism antifracking march took place this Sunday with a concentration in the area where it is intended to do the survey for the future prospection of gas with the technique of fracking.

The well is called Segura - 3 and is part of the Scorpio permit.

The City Council of Calasparra was represented by the Councilor for the Environment, Ricardo García, who informed the attendees "the commitment of the municipality in the fight against this and all other projects that want to use this technique in our territory."

Juana María Avilés, from the Calasparra Viva municipal group, also attended the rally.

Placing "antifracking" posters in the municipality

The City Council of Calasparra, which was declared Free Francking Municipality in 2013, has started the placement of "Antifracking" posters in visible places of the town, such as the center, entrances and exits of the municipality.
