The Government delegate opens the Interpretation Centre of the Old Village (01/04/2009)

The excavation, consolidation and presentation of the site allow you to know the ways of life in a rural population during the Spanish Islamic culture

The government delegate in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, opened with the mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro Jimenez, the Interpretation Centre of the Old Village and visited the excavation and consolidation activities that took place last year in that archaeological site.

Such interventions have involved an investment of 243,873 euros which has been provided in 75 per cent by the Ministry of Development under the 1% Culture and the remaining 25 percent from the Town Hall.

González Tovar stressed the importance that this site has to know the rural planning in the Islamic culture of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries in Spain, "which gives us interesting insights on urban design, housing, household utensils, and generally all those signs that make up the lifestyle of that era. "

Reported that the investment has been implemented in three chapters, the first of which involved the expansion from 46 to 150 meters from the Interpretation Centre, which has followed the pattern of houses that have appeared on the site and within which have been faithfully reproduced various habitats such as the kitchen, the barn, the bedrooms, etc.

In a second phase was carried out by the expansion of the excavation in the northern part of the site, which supposedly began the formation of the town, completing with this statement, excavating about two-thirds of the town.

Finally, a third phase has established the excavated area, which has allowed the partial reconstruction, and above all ensure the structures and excavated in previous campaigns.

Among the established structures is the wall, the moat and torees defense.

Also, to complete the proceedings has acquired the area and explanatory panels of the reservoir, so that your visit will be more attractive and understandable to citizens who come to this landmark site of the medieval world.
