The Community confirmed an investment of 150 million euros for a solar power plant in Calasparra (14/12/2009)

Some of the materials used in infrastructure will be built in the Region

The Minister of Universities and Research Company, Salvador Marin, announced today that the company Novatec Spain Solar will invest approximately 150 million euros in Calasparra to build a solar thermal plant, which will eventually produce 30 megawatts.

This investment is possible thanks to a partnership that developed the Department through the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines, and the company in dealing with this facility in coordination with the Secretary of State for Energy.

At a meeting last Thursday, Secretary of State for Energy, Pedro Luis Marín, Salvador Marin counselor confirmed that this infrastructure will be included in the earmarking record set by Royal Decree Law 6 / 2009.

Following this commitment by the Secretary of State, the company has informed the Ministry its intention to commence the project in early 2010.

The installation, called Puerto Wrong II, is adjacent to Puerto Wrong I, an industrial pilot plant is unique in the world of solar energy production, which uses linear solar collectors and air-cooling system instead of water, which was inaugurated by Marin in May this year.

Novatec, which developed the project with Prointec SA, provides for the construction and operation of this new production of solar energy could generate up to 200 jobs over two years.

The technology employed in this plant is based on the principle of Fresnel collectors used instead of the fields of parabolic curved mirrors, flat glass mirrors.

The use of flat mirrors, built in glass and steel plates for low cost, simplify and improve the solar field costs.

The mirrors are placed in parallel rows relative to each other, so that the reflective solar radiation is concentrated on a focal line at a height of seven meters, which generates steam that is converted into electricity by passing through a turbine.

In addition, the cooling system is by air condensers, which saves a ton of water, one of the handicap with which the region has to develop energy projects.

Flat mirrors used in these fields are made in Fortuna solar and the production process is automated and robotized.

Additionally, the structure is completed with robust components, manufactured in series, with little maintenance, easy to install and Novatec has developed a robot that cleans the different lines of mirrors to ensure maximum efficiency.

The company Novatec Solar Spain also has requested the construction of two power plants in Lorca, which would involve building a factory for manufacturing solar panels.

This project and other renewable energy were also dealt with last week's meeting the Minister with Secretary of State for Energy.
