Calasparra will join the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate and "blackout" of Earth Hour (26/03/2010)

This was announced Jesus Navarro, mayor of the town, who added that belong to this network is to make a commitment to our environment through the promotion of sustainable development policies and local action to combat climate change.

Spanish Network of Cities for Climate is Section of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), which brings together the towns and cities committed to sustainable development and climate protection.

The purpose of the Network is to become a forum for sharing knowledge and experiences, as well as a technical support tool for Local Governments Spanish, offering tools to achieve a sustainable development model.

The creation of the Network has been possible thanks to the institutional cooperation agreement signed between the FEMP and the Ministry of the Environment on November 4, 2004.

The basic lines of action of the Network as mobility, building and urban planning, energy and waste management.

The first activity that our town will be added to Earth Hour.

A call for the WWF to join the government, businesses and citizens.

The aim is to draw attention to the need to tackle climate change.

In the previous call involving a total of 4,159 cities in 88 countries and managed to turn out the lights of some of the most important monuments in the world.

In Spain, joined more than 200 cities and many monuments of them, including the Alhambra in Granada, the Cibeles in Madrid, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Earth Hour 2010 is convened on March 27 between 20:30 and 21:30 hours.
