The spokesman of the municipal group of Citizens, Carlos Alajarín, has denounced today the increase of 30% of the salary that the mayor will receive, the socialist José Vélez: “His first measure has been to raise the salary to 47,500 euros a year, a 30% increase compared to the previous legislature, which also places it just below the limit allowed by law for the inhabitants of more than 10,000 inhabitants, when Calasparra barely exceeds that population, â€said Alajarín.
The mayor said that "while the per capita income of the Calasparreños stands at just 15,000 euros per year, the mayor decides to charge more than triple, making it clear that he is not in politics to serve, but to serve himself."
Alajarín has also criticized that the Corporation will have six councilors released, "which implies an increase in salaries also of 30% over the previous legislature."
This increase, in his opinion, is “excessive†and is not justified “attending to the needs of the localityâ€.
The liberal spokesman has also emphasized the fact that during the Plenary session in which these economic assignments were decided, the mayor “would lay down the proposal that the different municipal groups had to justify their accounts before the Consistory, in an act contrary to any a glimpse of transparency and that makes clear its phobia of any action that sheds light on its management of public money. â€
According to Citizens' calculations, the total increase in spending to address the political structure of the town - which includes salaries, support for municipal groups or assistance to collegiate bodies, among others - “represents 22% more compared to the previous legislature , when it is clear that the economic situation of our City Council has not improved in that 22%.
It is an unfair increase and that the Calasparreños do not understand â€.
